A relationship, not a performance
You do not need impressive words. You can speak aloud, whisper, write, or pray silently. Christians pray to God through Jesus Christ, trusting the help of the Holy Spirit. Read Matthew 6:5–13 and Romans 8:26–27.
You can bring your whole life
Prayer includes praise, thanks, asking for help, admitting wrong, and praying for others. Sadness, anger, and questions can be brought to God too. The Psalms show a wide range of honest prayer.
Prayer is not a way to control God
A set phrase, number of repetitions, donation, or prayer technique does not guarantee an outcome. Christians ask boldly while trusting God’s wisdom. Prayer can accompany medical care, practical action, and support from others.
Try one sentence
“God, I am here. Help me speak honestly with you today.” Pause. Tell God one thing that is on your mind. You have begun.
