Our Father
We turn toward God with trust. “Our” reminds us that prayer includes other people. We pray as part of a community, even when alone.
Your name, your kingdom, your will
We honor God and ask that our lives and world reflect his goodness. We seek his will rather than treating prayer as a way to get everything we want.
Our daily bread
We can ask for ordinary needs: food, shelter, work, rest, and strength. We can also share what we have with people whose needs are greater.
Forgiveness
We ask for mercy and for help extending forgiveness. Forgiveness does not require pretending harm was acceptable, avoiding accountability, or remaining in an unsafe situation.
Deliver us from evil
We ask for protection and help resisting temptation. Christian traditions use slightly different endings and wording; these differences do not prevent praying together.
